Christmas time in Malaysia

My music canteen christmas cd is here, thanks to Lets (who just arrived in town today, yipppeee)! An early christmas pressie..

Some of my favourites include Tempered Mental's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" (love her throaty voice), Edge of Fire's "Little Drummer Boy" (it's my favourite Christmas song and I'm very fond of their updated version) and Shelley Leong's "Merry Christmas to you" (because she's such a sweetheart and i adore her in a non-stalker way) but the one that's getting heavy rotation on my laptop right now is Y2K's "Christmas time in Malaysia". It's a song about being Muslim during Christmas time and the lyrics crack me up.

I tried searching for lyrics on the 'net but I couldn't find it - it's not even in the cd notes.

I tried to transcribe the lyrics but there are some that I just couldn't catch. If someone could help fill in the blanks, I'd be happy.

In the meantime, here are the incomplete lyrics (please correct me, if there are any mistakes):

---

Christmas time in Malaysia - Y2K

it's christmas time in malaysia
and it never snows here
it's sunny all year
except for monsoon when it's raining
i'll get no presents, cuz i'm a muslim

Chorus:
so, merry christmas merry christmas,
merry christmas, hope you're happy
merry christmas, merry christmas
i'd wait till raya comes

every christmas, every single year,
my friends get presents but i get no cheer
while they sit beside this christmas tree
i sit at home watching ?? ?? tv

... chorus...

santa why don't i get no toys
can't you see that i've been a good boy
santa, can't i share this christmas joy with everybody else

it's christmas time in malaysia
and santa will not make it here
cuz it don't matter that i've been good all year
cuz we would never get to feel the christmas cheer
so one day i hope to sit on santa's sleigh
instead, hey ??????
???????
???????

...chorus...

----

This CD's awesome - I'd recommend it to everyone, whether you celebrate Christmas or not. I appreciate how the local bands have their own special twist to the traditional Christmas songs. Do your bit to support Malaysian music artistes!

Christmas presents. A nice practice, but how many would have recieve items which they may not be able to use. Please do not dump them into the trashcan and aggravate our environmental problem. Freecycle them. (freecycle is a new variation to recycle. Now we have the 3Rs and 1 F - Reduce Reuse Recycle Freecycle) Find out more at
